An at home facial
Indulging in an at-home facial with your favourite products can turn your living room into a mini spa. Let’s walk through my treasured routine together, guiding you to unlock an evening filled with relaxation and therapy. It’s a beautiful way to wrap up your day, pampering yourself with the love and attention you absolutely deserve. It’s not just skincare, it’s a self-love ritual.
Step 1: Double cleanse the skin. You will always need a clean canvas and double cleansing is the way to achieve this! It’s a two part routine which involves first breaking down product or grime on the skins surface then using a nourishing cleanser afterwards to clean. Start by massaging cleansing oil into the skin to break down any make-up, oil or dirt from the day and wipe off with a warm face cloth. I love the Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm it melts into the skin beautifully dissolving any impurities in the skin. The rose extract is so soothing, smells incredible and honestly gives the best results! You might then want to use a second cleanser and I would recommend something soothing like the CeraVe Smoothing Cleanser with Salicylic Acid as it protects the skins barrier whilst giving a lovely gentle clean! The lightweight formula cleanser helps to draw moisture in and combat irritants and dissolve pore-clogging, leaving the appearance of a smoother surface.Step 2: Steam! Steaming the skin has so many benefits, from softening the oils in the pores making it easier to unclog, to making your skin incredibly response to serums and moisturisers. If you have a face steamer like the Skinesis Pro Hydro-Mist Steamer by Sarah Chapman, that’s great! But if not, you can hover your face over a bowl of hot water or stand in a steamy shower.
Step 3: Exfoliate… But be gentle! Choose something like a chemical exfoliant that will help remove dead skin cells and clear our your pores; this will ensure smooth and dewy skin! You could look for something that will smooth, tone and reduce pore size. Harsher exfoliators and scrubs could actually cause damage to the skin barrier, so please be careful. Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic by REN is lovely for supporting the skin’s processes of protection, repair and renewal. Soak into a cotton pad and swipe over the face and neck to instantly brighten and tone. Another product I swear by is the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. I have used this for years and it always leaves my skin feeling polished and fresh. The powder activates with a few drops of water to gently exfoliate your skin and promises to tackle premature signs of ageing, uneven skin tones, oiliness and dehydration.Step 4: Hydrate with a face mask and relax! Give your skin some extra loving by choosing a mask that is best suited to your skin type and your desired affect. For example if you have dry skin, choose one with hyaluronic acid that will moisturise and rejuvenate! The Hydra-Glow Sheet Masks from Beauty Pie are perfect for moisture infusing and plumping. Sheet masks are great for ease and give you time to relax for 10-20 minutes whilst the active ingredients seep into the skin. If you’re looking for a mask to help with acne-prone skin, look for something with Salicylic Acid or Glycolic that will help reduce inflammation and prevent clogging such as the Salicylic Acid 2% Masque by The Ordinary. This budget friendly formula is loved by many as has amazing results in reducing the appearance of imperfections by targeting dull and blemish-prone skin.
If you’re noticing wrinkles, fine lines and hyperpigmentation, a Vitamin C infused mask might be best for you! Known for boosting collagen, giving a healthy glow and sun damage protection, it’s perfect for ageing skin. Mega-C 30% Vitamin C Brightening Facial by Kate Somerville will ensure a gorgeous glow, alongside benefits such as sustained hydration, diminishing the look of fine lines and wrinkles and energising skin renewal; an overall radiance boost that creates a lovely smoothness.
For skin that’s prone to redness, Niacinamide may be your best choice! It’s great for reducing redness and blotching, again with fine lines and hyperpigmentation. I love the Flawless Revival Mask by Dr. Sam Bunting. Described as being like a like a big glass of water for overwhelmed skin, this fragrance free, vegan formula will calm, hydrate and brighten in seconds!
Step 6: Massage! Here comes my favourite part. There are so many tools that can help you with facial massaging, whether it be a Gun Sha, a Jade Roller, Ice Globes or by just using your own hands, you will feel and see the benefits immediately and over time see long terms changes. Firstly you’ll want to make sure your hands or the tools you’re using are clean. Then you can pick your favourite serum or facial oil as they deliver super concentrated ingredients into your skin. One of my firm favourites would be Advanced Night Repair by Estée Lauder, this magical formula helps to target multiple skin concerns and is enriched with Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E and reparative tripeptide-32 providing radiant and smoother skin.
Other serums I’m loving are the Revitalift Filler Serum by L’Oréal which intensely nourishes, hydrates, improves plumpness and smoothes and also the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate, this is definitely a luxury product but the results are incredible. It works to deflect daily damage while gradually boosting your skins own resilience. Such a winner!
Then using gentle but firm pressure start by massaging the lymph area at the base of the neck and on the sides in circular motions upwards. Then follow by kneading your skin in circles up towards the jaw, then the sides of the face, gently around your eyes and lastly smoothing your forehead lines.
Here are some facial massaging tools that will give you the opimum at home facial massage!
The Odacité Rose Quartz Crystal Contour Gun Sha – Inspired by tradition Chinese massage, the Gua Sha is beautifully hand-carved with precise angles and thickness to perfectly adapt to the contours of the face, providing an effective and easy massage.
Brushworks Face Sculpting Zinc Roller – This feels incredible, the cooling zinc gives a deep kneading massage that helps tone, firm and brighten the skin whist improving circulation. I like to keep mine in the fridge for that extra coolness!
ESPA Cryotherapy Globes – These are the best when you wake up feeling a little puffy! Store them in the fridge and the icy temperature will boost circulation, de-puff, sculpt jawline and generally make your skin feel lifted, tightened and less tense.
Skin Gym Jade Facial Roller – Facial rollers have may benefits including releasing facial tension, face sculpting, toning, firming and enhancing glow. This dual sided roller by Skin Gym has a smaller roller for areas around the eyes and the larger one for cheekbones, the jawline and forehead.
Step 7: Apply moisturiser! Lastly you want to seal everything in with a gorgeous moisturiser! Whatever works best for you and your skin type, gently rub into your face, neck and décolletage.
And there you have it, a gorgeous facial from the comfort if your own home. 🧖🏻♀️💖
